Best time to visit Varanasi

October to March is the sweet spot. But every season has its reasons — Shravan for devotion, November for Dev Deepawali, winter for misty dawns on the river.

Oct – Mar

Winter & shoulder

Comfortable for everyone, including elders and children. Pack a warm layer for dawn. The busiest season for hotels — book early, especially for November.

Apr – Jun

Summer

Fewer crowds and lower hotel prices, but punishing heat by midday. Plan darshan at 4–7 AM and outings after sunset.

Jul – Sep

Monsoon

Green and atmospheric, with Shravan devotion at its peak. The river floods, ghats go underwater, and boat rides and riverside aartis may be moved or suspended.

If you are travelling with elders

  • Choose late October–November or February–March: mild days and nights.
  • Avoid Shravan Mondays and Mahashivratri unless you have Sugam darshan and a short walk to the temple.
  • In winter, book trains and flights with some buffer — morning fog can cause long delays.
