Parking and the old city
Private vehicles are stopped at barriers around Godowlia and Maidagin, especially in the evenings and on festivals. There are multi-level and surface parking lots near Godowlia and Beniya Bagh; from there it is a short walk or rickshaw ride to the temple and Dashashwamedh.
స్థానిక సూచన. If you are driving yourself, choose a hotel with parking outside the old city — Cantonment, Sigra or Bhelupur — and use rickshaws for the last stretch.
Driving tips
- Expressways have FASTag tolls; keep your FASTag recharged.
- Avoid driving at night on smaller highways; fog in December–January makes early mornings dangerous too.
- Traffic near Godowlia, Lahurabir and Lanka is heavy from 5 to 9 PM.
- Two-wheelers, cows and pedestrians share every road — drive slowly in the city.
Hire a car with driver
For sightseeing, Sarnath and day trips to Prayagraj, Ayodhya or Bodh Gaya, a car with a local driver is the stress-free option. Drivers know where vehicles are allowed, where to wait, and the best times to beat traffic.
