Flying to Varanasi

Varanasi’s Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport (VNS) at Babatpur is well connected to India’s big cities. For most South and West Indian travellers, flying is the fastest way to Kashi.

Flying in from abroad

International services to Varanasi are limited, so most overseas visitors connect through Delhi (best choice), Mumbai, Bengaluru or Kolkata. Leave at least 3–4 hours between an international arrival and your domestic flight — immigration, baggage re-check and terminal changes take time. In winter, morning fog in Delhi and Varanasi can cause delays.

From the airport to the city

  • Prepaid taxi from the counter in arrivals — fixed price, reliable.
  • App cabs (Uber, Ola) usually operate; meet at the designated pickup point.
  • Hotel pickup, arranged in advance — easiest if you arrive late or with elders.
  • Ask to be dropped at Godowlia (for the temple) or at your hotel. Vehicles cannot enter the old-city lanes.
